While I am on vacation, I hope you enjoy this mani post from Beauty by Miss L!

I am Leelo from Beauty by Miss L and I want to thank Arielle for allowing me to write this post for her lovely blog.

Today I want to show you my very simple manicure where I used 2 of my favorite nail polishes and one of my favorite nail art technique - dots.

So on my nails you can see 2 coats of Models Own Peaches&Cream which was one of my favorite nail polishes this summer. Then I added bigger dots using Butter London Marbs which is perfect nail polish for this Fall and smaller dots with OPI Alpine Snow. I finished my manicure with Poshe Super-Fast Drying Top Coat.

I hope you liked my simple manicure!

3 Drugstore Mascaras You Need Right Now

I am an absolute mascara fanatic. It is by far my favorite product to test out. I have thin lashes that tend to point straight out. While I have length, I am always looking for volume or better yet, both. Overtime, I have found 3 drugstore mascaras that have become staples in my collection.

NYC Sky Rise Lengthening Mascara, $1.99: This dirt cheap mascara intensifies the length of lashes. Plus, there's no flaking or clumping. It takes the length of my lashes to a whole new level. This is the mascara I use on my five minute face days because I always know I will get just the finishing eye look I need.

Wet n Wild Megaimpact Mascara, $2.99: Another inexpensive find that truly bumps up the volume of lashes. Just like NYC, I never experience any flaking or clumping. Whenever I feel my lashes are looking sparse, a quick swipe of this  gives me all of the volume I need.

L'oreal Voluminous Carbon Black, $7.99: This is the ultimate length plus volume experience. For anyone needing both, this mascara will quickly become your secret weapon. While it is a bit on the wet side, I cannot get enough of the effect this mascara has on my lashes. It gives me the "false lashes" look that I desire.

Sonia Kashuk Nail Colour in Sugar Rush

I wanted to quickly share with you all this lovely polish from Sonia Kashuk. I absolutely adore nude polishes (you can see my favorites here) and this one is no exception. I generally gravitate towards taupe shades, however the blush pink in Sugar Rush is so soft and gorgeous it is perfect for everyday wear.

I topped Sugar Rush with Seche Vite and was able to get about a weeks worth of wear time. The polish isn't quite opaque, which is one downfall, but it is buildable enough that I can overlook that quality. Overall, I absolutely love it and plan to wear it throughout the fall season.

Nuance Salma Hayek Lasting Wear Gel Eyeliner in Grey Review & Swatch

Nuance Salma Hayek Lasting Wear Gel Eyeliner in Grey, $9.99 CVS

I am a gel eyeliner junky. I love the longevity and intense pigmentation from them. The downside is you generally have to apply freehand, with a brush (you can see my tips on application here). Luckily, Nuance Salma Hayek carries a gel liner in pencil form for application ease.

This liner claims that it is long lasting and hydrating. It is formulated with aloe vera and vitamin e to condition the eyes. Promises to be gentle enough for sensitive eyes.

Generally, I am a black liner wearer. However, I really loved the softness that this grey shade provided.

I would describe the shade as smoky, yet soft, with hints of shimmer. On the eyes, the shimmer barely translates, which I prefer.

I am very pleased with the amount of time this liner stuck to my lids-which was all day. I did not see any fading or smudging throughout the entire day. I appreciate that this liner is packaged in pencil form because it makes application a breeze. The formula is quite buttery and smooth.

I will certainly be picking up other shades of this liner due to the longevity of wear and smooth application.

What is your favorite gel eyeliner?

Tweezerman Procurl Lash Curler Review

Tweezerman Procurl Lash Curler in Rose Gold, $20 Sephora

I would call myself a budget beauty lover and am not easily duped by high end brands. Once, I tried Japonesque and it was a disappointment. It turned me away from any curler over my trusty $1 ELF curler. Having said that, as soon as I put the Tweezerman Procurl Lash Curler to my eyes I could instantly feel the difference.

The curvature of this is perfect for getting every single lash curled. I notice that some curlers tend to run on too straight of a plain, causing the ends of lashes to only be curled at the tips.

With Tweezerman, I am able to easily get to the base of my lashes and it fits my eye size perfectly. I appreciate how wide the curler opens and I have not pinched myself once with this.

The rose gold finish is absolutely gorgeous and it made me not want to touch it! It definitely gives a luxurious feel. Best of all, my lashes are perfectly curled every time.

Tweezerman Procurl Lash Curler Results

Generally, my lashes poke straight out. With this curler, some oomph is added.

Physician's Formula Organic Wear Jumbo Mascara Review & Results

Physician's Formula Organic Wear Jumbo Mascara, $9.99 drugstores

I am an absolute mascara junkie. Give me a tube and I will test it! I am always on the lookout for one that provides length and volume.

I picked up Physician's Formula Organic Wear Jumbo Mascara at the recommendation of GlamLifeGuru, when she sang the praises of this. At the time, CVS had some great coupons so I was able to pick it up for around $2.

PF claims that this mascara will provide 5x the length and volume. It is made with 100% natural ingredients, which I really appreciate. Close to 50% of the ingredients are organic.

The brush is rubber with different sized bristles. It reminds me of Covergirl's Lash Blast. It is shaped like a corn cob, causing the middle section of lashes to be coated the most.

The formula itself is slightly dry. The wand is easy to use and the curvature of the handle does little to assist with application.

At first, I was not impressed with application. Then, I decided to allow my lashes to dry in between coats. I was much happier with the results.

This mascara gives me quite a bit of length and average amounts of volume. Would I call it 5x? No way! However, I love the results. Next time CVS has a PF sale, I will definitely pick up another tube.

Have you tried Physician's Formula mascaras? What do you like about them?

Nuance Salma Hayek Ultra Shine Lip Gloss in Pomegranate Review & Swatch

Nuance Salma Hayek Ultra Shine Lip Gloss in Pomegranate, $7.49 CVS

This was my first experience with the Salma Hayek line of cosmetics. The tube boasts that it will provide shine, deep nourishment, protect and color.

I tested out the shade Pomegranate, which I would described as a pink with red-orange undertones. On my pigmented lips, it enhances my natural color to a lovely pink shade.

Nuance Salma Hayek Ultra Shine Lip Gloss is lightly pigmented. I suggest wearing over your favorite lipstick. Worn alone, it will show a bit of coloration. While the package claims that it is ultra shine, I wouldn't call it that. The gloss tastes sweet. I love that it is not sticky and I can easily slide my lips back and forth. There was no need for me to apply a balm under this gloss because it never dried out my lips. The color lasts about an hour.

I find this to be an average lipgloss and not something I'm going to be running to CVS over. For everyday, simple application, it's a winner.

Do you have any favorites from the Nuance line?

How I Balanced my Skin and Solved my Cystic Acne

Since early spring, I had been battling hellacious cystic acne. I finally found my perfect regime and got everything under control.

My acne story did not begin until my junior year of college when I massively broke out for the first time. I tried everything but finally broke down and went the prescription route. I combined it with Clinique 3-Step and was in skin balanced heaven for several years. That was until this past spring when Revlon Nearly Naked foundation and the Garnier BB Cream brought back the cystic part of acne with a vengeance.

At that point, my Rx stopped working. I thought the Clinique had stopped working it's magic, too, so I unwillingly went on several month journey to balance and treat my skin. I tested out several lines and none of them solved my acne. I was getting two cystic acne spots per week. It was awful. They were painful, large, swollen, lasted a few weeks at a time and scarred.

I went back on my original thought on the Clinique 3-Step and resumed use. Within 2 weeks my skin began to balance out and my oils were well controlled. I received my first compliment on my skin, in months, once I went back. My acne went down to 1 cystic spot per week but I wasn't satisfied with this.

Around 6-8 weeks ago, a PR company sent me AcneFree Gentle Acne Scrub. This was my last ditch effort before going back to the Rx. Lucky for me IT WORKED! I haven't had a cystic acne spot since. I treat any bumps, whiteheads and pimples with Mario Badescu Drying Lotion and the combo works perfectly for keeping my skin clear.

The routine:

AM: Wash with AcneFree Gentle Acne Scrub. Tone with Clinique Clarifying Lotion 2. Moisturize with Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion and an eye cream.

PM: Cleanse with Clinique Liquid Facial Soap on my Clarisonic Mia (keeps my blackheads at bay!). Tone with Clinique Clarifying Lotion 2. Moisturize with Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion and an eye cream. Spot treat with Mario Badescu Drying Lotion.

Bonus items: One to two times per week I mask with either Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque or one of my DIY masks (find them here and here). When I have a particularly stubborn pimple, I treat with tea tree oil in the AM under my makeup.

Do you have any secrets to balancing and clearing your skin?

Beauty for the Soul: 3 Things

It has been a long time since I have done a Beauty for the Soul post and quite honestly, it's because I had been in a funk. Recently, I realized exactly why. I had stopped doing a few "skills" that keep me in balance. As soon as I had the aha moment, I picked up 3 activities I love but had stopped somewhere along the line.

  1. Meditation. This is my main tool that keeps me in check. For many months, I started my morning with meditation, prayer and journaling. Around the time we moved, I got out of the habit and I sorely suffered. Lucky for me, Deepak and Oprah recently offered a 21 day meditation challenge that got me back into the swing of things. I also downloaded GPS4Soul on my iPhone to continue my practice. My mornings are beginning with more clarity and balance.
  2. Reading. I used to devour books. Sometime around college, I ditched the habit because I had too much required reading to do. I would always say to myself, "I can't wait to have time to read for pleasure!" Well, I finished grad school over a year ago and reading never happened-until now. I forced myself to go outside of my comfort zone and joined a book club. This pushed my nose back into literature. Getting lost in a book is the ultimate calm for me.
  3. Walking the dog. I love my animal to pieces. I used to walk her everyday. I'm not even sure when I got out of this. A few months ago, I recommitted myself to walking her a few times a week. We go early in the morning, when the sun is rising, and it's comforting to have the quiet and fresh air. Plus, I know she loves it too.
While these are small activities, they have a huge impact on my quality of life. I tend to notice that we, as people, find things that work for us and then as life gets busy we stop using the skills. When this happens, things tend to revert backwards and stress increases. If we know something works for us, we must keep doing it. Since this realization, I hope to never abandon these small pleasures again.

What is one activity you have given up that you need to get back into? What can you do to make it happen today?
