The $10 Eye

My favorite piece to makeup looks are the eyes but I don't always want to spend a fortune on products. Luckily, I found an eyeshadow, liner and mascara that are under $10 TOTAL!

Eyeshadow
Wet n Wild Coloricon Eyeshadow Trio, $2.99: These trios are packed with pigmentation. The shade selection is vast and you can easily create any look you desire. My favorite palette is Walking On Eggshells. It includes all of shades you need for a soft nude eye.

Eyeliner
Wet n Wild MegaEyes Creme Eyeliner, $3.99: I prefer a gel liner to a pencil or liquid because they always stay put for hours. This one glides on smooth, is a soft black and lasts all day without smudging or fading.

Mascara
NYC Sky Rise Lengthening Mascara, $1.99: This dirt cheap mascara intensifies the length of lashes. Plus, there's no flaking or clumping. As a bonus, add a volumizing mascara to the tips of lashes and you  will love the results.

What are your favorite budget eye products?

Nelson j Argan Oil Non-Foaming Shampoo Review

What it claims: Nelson j Argan Oil Non-Foaming Shampoo touts that it is a 7-in-1 product that will replace your everyday shampoo, conditioner, detangler, shine spray, smoothing serum, color protector and pre-styling lotion. Formulated to not strip hair and clean thoroughly. Hair will be left well moisturized and shiny. It is available on Nelson j Haircare for $22.

My experience: To say that I am generally skeptical of anything that claims to replace multiple products is an understatement. I have fine locks that are easily tangled and dry from coloring.

I tested Nelson j Shampoo alone to evaluate its detangling and conditioning properties. First impression, I adored the scent. It is minty fresh-a nice addition to my morning shower. After use, to my surprise, I was easily able to comb through my hair. After drying, it was soft and shiny. It also did not weigh down my hair.

Well, that was until 3 days later when I realized my roots had become a grease pit. This shampoo will not remove daily oil and product buildup.  If you are someone who washes their hair daily, due to grease, this will not replace your daily shampoo. I use it after my daily shampoo as a conditioning treatment. My hair has been well moisturized and tangle free.

As for replacing all of my other hair products? I actually do not use shine spray or smoothing serum so I really have no idea. My hair does appear to be shiny, though. I still add my Marc Anthony Thickening Cream because, as you fine haired gals know, we need some oomph.

After weeks of use, my hair is still shiny and soft. My ends tend to be fried and I feel this has softened them up. I also love that my hair has virtually no tangles when I exit the shower

Bottom Line: I recommend Nelson j Argan Oil Non-Foaming Shampoo for anyone with thick/dry locks. You will be thrilled with what it can do for dry hair. If you are fine haired gal, use every other day or after your daily shampoo.

Busy Girl's Summer Nail Art Challenge

I'm excited to share with you all a project I have been working on with some amazing bloggers: the Busy Girl's Summer Nail Art Challenge!

You may remember the Totally Doable Challenge I completed back in April. I loved the idea but I quickly became overwhelmed completing nail art every 3 days. So, that's how this weekly challenge idea came about!

The Busy Girl's Summer Nail Art Challenge will be launching on Instagram this Monday (June 24!).

The rules are simple: do your mani for the week and post on instagram! You can post the week's mani prompt on any day that week (ideal for the busy girl!). Be sure to tag each of the hosts @beautybykrystal, @drinkcitra, @mirandasmakeup and me (@beautybyarielle). Use the hashtag #busygirlnails so we can find your beautiful creations! Feel free to get creative with each week's prompt. You can participate in as many or as few weeks as you like.

Don't have Instagram? Don't fret! Post on your blog and share your link with us. I will be posting my weekly mani here, too.

We can't wait to see your #busygirlnails!

Pibu Skincare Facial Mask Review

When Pibu contacted me about testing out their new masks, I had no idea what to expect. When I put them to use they were quite the entertainment.

Pibu sells these single use masks for $7-$10 each. There is also a 10 pack available. You can choose from Mandarin, Green Tea, Aloe Vera, Peppermint or Mud. Each mask claims to have different properties that are stated directly on the packaging. The claims range from moisturizing to redefining. To see the complete list of claims for each mask type, click here.

The masks come in a single sheet that can be applied to the face. They set for 20-30 minutes. After, you rub in any leftover residue. Pibu claims these are comparable to a spa quality facial.

The sheets remind me of a soppy baby wipe. They do not dry on the skin. Most of them provide a tingling. Aloe Vera and Green Tea are best suited for after sun exposure. Peppermint provides a nice scent. Mandarin will give you some tingle.

The mud mask is the only one that is not soppy. It is plastic with mud on the other side. The mud does not harden.

I took these with me to visit my mom and we did one together. It was very amusing because you're basically putting on a sheet with eye and mouth cutouts. We could not stop laughing. This made for a lot fun. We both noticed some pimples pop up after use.

These masks will also seriously creep someone out, if you don't warn them. My husband woke up from a nap to this:

boo!

Overall, I think these are fun to do but I don't think they are a skincare necessity. I did not notice any differences in the appearance of my skin. Plus, none of the masks met the claims. If you're looking for a weekly mask, I suggest Queen Helene Mint Julep.

Today, I'm linking up with My Thrifty Chic for Anything and Everything Hop!

***Edit as of 2/18/14***
I was contacted by Pibu who corrected that the mud mask is able to be peeled on both sides and will dry completely. They informed me they corrected the packaging to include these directions. I had no idea!

Hydroxatone AM/PM Anti-Wrinkle Complex Review

The Hydroxatone AM/PM Anti-Wrinkle Complex is a daily facial cream that can be used all over the face and eyes. It retails for $79.95 and is available on Hydroxatone's website.

What the company claims: Hydroxatone's website will tell you this cream is perfect for sensitive skin and reduces the look of wrinkles. It also claims it will "erase" the appearance of crow's feet and fine lines. It can increase hydration, reduce uneven skin tone, reduce hyperpigmentation and reduce forehead wrinkles.

My experience: When I first opened up this cream, I thought it looked just like butter. It is yellow and creamy. This makes the formulation quite easy to spread on the skin. It also takes minimal amounts to reach all areas of your face.

I also found this buttery formulation to be quite hydrating. I never experienced dry patches during my testing period. The dry spots I had prior to use, were gone within a few applications.

My sensitive skin responded very well to Hydroxatone. It did not cause any breakouts, redness or extra oils. I was able to use this around my eyes and had no adverse reactions.

Speaking of my eyes, this is where I noticed the most changes in my skin. This year some fine lines popped up and I have also been looking tired (even when I'm well rested!). Hydroxatone took away that tired appearance and plumped up my under eye area. While my fine lines are far from erased, I can tell the area is far more hydrated, thus reducing the appearance of them. I also felt like it reduced the depth of my smile lines.

Since I do not experience uneven skin tone or hyperpigmentation, I cannot comment on how Hydroxatone performed in those areas.

This cream also has SPF 15, which is always a bonus. I'm happy to report it does not have the terrible SPF smell, either.

Overall, I loved this cream. It is very hydrating, was the first product to actually do anything to my fine lines and my sensitive skin ate it up. I also loved that this cream can be used on both face and eyes, eliminating the need for two creams. The only downside I can see is the price. I tend to be a budget savvy shopper, however for something that actually works I am willing to make a splurge. Since this did live up to most claims, I could see myself picking it up in the future.

Which cream do you love for reducing the look of fine lines?

Today, I'm linking up with Lipgloss and Crayons for Funday Monday.

***UPDATE 9/19/13***
I continued to use this product throughout the summer. I found that it became too heavy for day wear so I switched to night. Eventually, I went to eyes only. As an eye cream, it stopped working it's magic. I continue to use it because it's there and it was expensive. Overtime, I feel like it stopped working on my other fine lines as well. After longterm use, I have decided I won't be picking this up again.

Perlier Shower and Bath Kit Review

I love bath and body care items, especially ones with a new concept. This one includes a honey and an olive oil set that I was dying to try.

Perlier is a natural based product line that was created in Italy. They have been around for 80 years.

This kit is available on HSN for $19.95. Save $5 with the code ifabbo5. You get 4 shower creams and 4 body lotions in Honey Miel, Olivarium, Shea Butter and White Almond. Each item included in the kit is travel size.

Honey is lightly scented. The body wash lathers nicely but the lotion is a bit difficult to spread. It was not moisturizing enough to use on my hands but the skin on my body felt moisturized.

Olivarium does not smell like olive oil, thankfully. There is a light fresh scent to it. The body wash and lotion spread easily. They leave the skin soft and smooth. It is my favorite of the collection.

Shea Butter is my least favorite. Unfortunately, the wash is runny and the lotion is nearly impossible to slather on. There's no scent.

I used White Almond a couple of times and overall enjoyed it. I gave them to my mom to try out. She loved the set and said, "I feel like a baby's bottom!"

This little kit is a treat to try out. I like that you are able to test out several varieties so you can hone in on your favorite. I also love that they are travel size. With all of the places I am going to this summer, these will be fantastic to throw in my bag for luxury body and skin care. Even though there are some I don't prefer, they all provide intense moisture to the skin. My husband even noticed how soft my skin was-and it's pretty moisturized normally! If you are suffering from dry skin, I think any of the sets in this Perlier kit would work beautifully to hydrate you.

What is your favorite body wash and lotion?

The Makeup Show Chicago Recap

Over the weekend, I journeyed to Chicago to attend The Makeup Show. I was also able to catch up with my friend, Jamie! I had a great weekend and learned a lot, so I wanted to recap for you all.

I was fortunate enough to take part in the blogger preview on Saturday night and The Makeup Show for free. I don't know how I got to be so lucky!

Makeup Artist and host, James Vincent, spoke on Saturday night. He enlightened us with his story to stardom. He also shared with us his favorite products from the show and gave us some goodies.

James Vincent speaking at the blogger preview.

On Sunday, I was given a press pass! That was pretty cool.

The Bridgeport Art Center was packed!

That's Reggie Wells!

I was able to watch Eve Pearl do a demo. I thought I had died and went to heaven!

Crown Brush had some amazing deals and was completely packed!

I stopped by Inglot to pick up some goodies, too!

Just a few of the impressive demos going on all around the show.

I'm also thrilled because at the preview I was able to meet some bloggers! I met Kayla from Peace, Love and Glitter, Laurie from 312 Beauty and Gaby from Beauty by Gaby

The whole show was an amazing experience. There were fabulous speakers, makeup galore and endless opportunities to learn. I stopped by Anastasia Beverly Hills and they taught me how to properly fill in my brows. Eve Pearl showed off her reverse contouring technique. Plus, nearly every major brand was in attendance. I was also able to pick up some amazing products. I will share my haul tomorrow. If you would like to see additional photos from the show, hop on over to Instagram and search for the hashtag #tmschi.

If The Makeup Show comes to a city near you, I highly recommend attending!!

Makeover Monday

While I'm on my way back from The Makeup Show Chicago, I wanted to share with you a makeover I completed!

There were many Friday nights spent watching What Not to Wear with my mom. My favorite part, and the part I felt was most transformative, was the makeover. I love when Carmindy flips the chair around for the big reveal.

I was hoping for an experience similar to What Not to Wear for this makeover. I asked Alicia, who is my colleague at work, to be my muse since because she does not wear makeup and keeps her hair natural. When I approached her with this makeover idea, to my surprised, she agreed! She later explained to me that she didn't know much about makeup. I thought not only would this be a big change for her but I could take the opportunity to teach her some tips and tricks.

When I create makeup looks, my philosophy is to enhance a woman's natural features. In this case, Alicia has gorgeous eyes so I really wanted to show them off. I also spent time matching her foundation  to give her flawless looking skin.

I was thrilled with her reaction and the results. I honestly wasn't expecting such a transformation!

If you're in Southern Indiana or Illinois, I can be hired for special occasion makeup. E-mail me at beautybyarielle(at)gmail(dot)com for more information!

If you have done any makeovers, please link to them below. I would love to see 'em!

Influenster Spring VoxBox Review

I received the Influenster Spring VoxBox. After testing all of the items, I wanted to give you all a quick overview of my thoughts on each!

Broadway Nails imPRESS Press-On Manicure
What it claims: Peel and press-on for a manicure in seconds. Results can last up to a week.

My experience: I followed the directions exactly. I payed special attention to make sure my nails were clean. Within one hour, the thumb nail fell of. In less than 48 hours, 2 more nails popped off. I really loved the design and concept, so I was sadly disappointed. They were easy to apply and the design was beautiful. Other people have had much better success with these than I have, so I wouldn't write them off completely.

Secret Outlast Clear Gel Deodorant
What it claims: A clear deodorant with 48 hours of odor and wetness protection. Leaves fewer white marks on your clothing.

My experience: I would love to say this lasted 48 hours but it didn't. I normally use Secret's Clinical Strength to protect from odor. Sadly, this one only lasted 8 hours. When I woke up in the morning, I had that terrible sleepy BO smell. Needless to say, I'm going back to the Clinical Strength. I did not have any white marks, though. I think this would work for someone who does not have a need for clinical strength deodorant.

NYC Applelicious Glossy Lip Balm
What it claims: In one swipe you will get color, shine and moisture.

My experience: This was my favorite product from the box! I was surprised by the amount of pigmentation you get from this balm. It left my lips with a beautiful just bitten red hue. The color lasts a couple of hours and has a dewey finish. My lips were also well moisturized. I would definitely pick up another tube.

Schwarzkopf Professional OSiS Gelastic
What it claims: An gel that provides all day definition and an ultra strong flex.

My experience: When I opened the box I honestly said to myself, people still use gel?! All I could think of was my middle school days when all of the boys spiked their hair with gel. I used this gel wet and dry. With both attempts, my hair was crunchy and difficult to style. I think this would be better for someone with naturally curly hair than fine flat hair.

Tastykake Kandy Bar Kakes
What it claims: A chocolate cake with creme filling that is shaped like a candy bar.

My experience: I received the s'mores flavor and split it with my husband. I really can't spin it in any good way because we both thought it tasted terrible. The texture was strange and the sponge cake was dry.

Which products did you love from the Spring VoxBox?

Thrifter Thursday: The Transition of Seasons

Yes, I know it's June. However, this transition from winter to spring to summer has been quite odd in the midwest. I think there have been 1-2 legitimate days of spring. Otherwise, it has hovered between 50-90. This weekend was one of those cool days. I wanted to show you how I do the cool-warm transition. By the way, on this day it went from 60 to 90 back to 60 with wind. I would kill for some stable weather!

Top: The Loft via eBay
Crop Pants: Gap via Plato's Closet
Wedges: Quipid via Plato's Closet

I chose a lightweight long sleeved shirt, crop pants and some bright wedges. The top kept me from getting too warm but would still break the wind. I feel like nothing says spring (or summer) like colorful wedges! I could wear crop pants all year long.

Today, I'm linking up with Small Town, Big Wardrobe and The Pleated Poppy.

What do you wear during weather transitions?
