Hard Candy Single & Loving It shadow + Sheer Envy Primer Review

PR Sample

In 2012, I shared how much I loved Hard Candy Sheer Envy primer. Since then, I had not tried any of their products due to not living near a Walmart with their line (insert sad face). When they reached out to me to try their new Sheer Envy that was color correcting, I jumped at the chance. I was also able to sample their Single and Loving It eye shadows in Oink! and Sandy Beach.

Sheer Envy Single and Loving It Eye Shadow

I was very surprised when I swatched these to find that one was white-light pink and the other was golden. In the packaging, I think they look like they will be much different. Having said that, these two pair very nicely together when doing the "sandwich" method of eye shadow application. The pigmentation is on point and they last well with a primer.

These single eye shadows will run $3/ea. There are 4 other shades in addition to these.

Hard Candy Sheer Envy Primer Color Correcting

This new primer is exactly like the original Sheer Envy in every shape and form except for the color. This one is green and is meant to color correct and balance skin tone. While I love what it does to smooth out my skin and extend the wear time of foundation, it does very little for me in the color correct department. At first, it works well but the balancing act only lasts a few hours at most.

This primer runs $8 and is available in 5 other shades that offer differing qualities.

New From Alberto VO5

Albert VO5 recently reached out to me to test some of their new products. Honestly, I was a bit hesitant to accept because I have always thought of them as that inexpensive stuff on the bottom of the shelf. Luckily, their new line of products are nothing like what my mind had made them out to be.

First up, their Full Body + Shine Shampoo and Conditioner. Both include 5 vitamins and 11 oils. They claim to replenish moisture without weighing down hair.

As most of you are aware, I have pretty flat hair. I was thrilled when the shampoo gave me excellent volume. It's actually a little better than my go to brand. Plus, it cleans all the gunk out with no build up.

The conditioner is average. I don't find it to be particularly moisturizing but it does get it's intended job done.

Alberto VO5 Full Body and Shine Shampoo and Conditioner

The Hot Oil Therapy is meant to be used weekly to restore and replenish hair. You heat it up in warm water and leave on locks for about a minute. I didn't notice any difference in my hair from using it.

The Simply Stunning Leave-in Conditioner is said to protect from heat and help prevent breakage. When I think of leave-in conditioners, I see a way to detangle. I have very tangly hair so I was hoping it would help with this but it didn't. As for heat protection, I have a hard time telling if any of those types of products do much. I do know my hair isn't fried right now so it could have been from this.

Their Perfect Hold Styling Hairspray has become my fav hairspray. While it is a bit strong (and crunchy) I need that to keep my fine hair in place. My curls lasted all day for once.

Alberto VO5 Hot Oil Treatment, Leave-in Conditioner, Perfect Hold

Out of the line, I love the shampoo and hairspray. I will definitely pick it up again. The conditioner is on my maybe list while the oil and leave-in conditioner will be skipped.

All of these products can be found at your local drugstore. They are each priced around $4.

That Time I Went to See Jillian Michaels

So, I went to hang out with see Jillian Michaels on her Maximize Your Life Tour. Now, I'm not someone who generally goes to motivational speakers (in fact this was my first time) but I have been a long time fan of her podcast. When I saw (last weekend) she was going to be in a city near me, I jumped on the chance to go.

So why did I really want to see Jillian? As I mentioned, I love her iTunes podcast. Seriously, if you are not a listener you need to be one. From tuning in the past few years, I have grown to very much appreciate her authenticity. Plus, I share a lot of the same beliefs as her. I really want to be friends with Jillian. I think we would really hit it of. She likes the f word, as do I.

The 2 hour show was split into food, fitness and life. The basic premise of those topics was "east less, move more." 'Nuff said.

In the "life" section of the show, she focused on motivation and how we can live in the best way possible. She discussed how many of us become complacent and essentially stop living.

This got me thinking about what I am passionate about. For the past 2 years I have been feeling stuck in my career. I thought back to what brought me into the field in the first place and it wasn't to do what I'm doing now.

My friend who went with me said, "Jillian made me question every decision I have made." We talked about this on the way home. The conclusion I have come to is that we all have a secret dream that for some reason or another we put on hold. I know what mine is and I really need to stop thinking about it and make it happen.

My First Time at MAC

Gasp! This beauty blogger had never been to a MAC. While I was in Nashville, seeing Jillian Michael's, we stopped at the Mall at Green Hills. My friend saw the MAC and we knew we had to make a pit stop.

Real talk for a sec, so I don't live anywhere near a MAC and never have. In fact, I didn't know what MAC or Sephora was until about 4 years ago. I was only accustomed to drugstore makeup until I bought bareMinerals in 2011.

Back to MAC, I cannot believe how many people they have working at a time. It was almost overwhelming. Anyway, since we were there I decided it was essential that I buy a foundation. I requested to get matched and they went ahead and did all of my makeup (except eyes).

The store manager was the consultant I had and he was awesome. He even said if the foundation ended up breaking me out, I could mail it back to their store no problem.

I explained to him that I have sensitive skin, prefer medium to full coverage, love neutral shades and am combo. He decided to go with the Matchmaker foundation in 1.0. He also used their lipstick in Peach Blossom on me. I loved it so much I picked up a tube.

Overall, I was impressed with my experience. I already knew I loved their lipstick because I once picked up a tube during a blog sale. The foundation matches me perfectly and is very skin like. As I get to know it more, I will review!

What do you recommend I go for at my next MAC stop?

If My Blog Was an Outfit

I hopped on Pinterest last night and noticed Ange, from Hairspray and Highheels, pinning a bunch of 'if my blog was an outfit' posts. I looked through them and loved the idea. This is a linkup her and A Dose of Page came up with.

As I was thinking this post over, I immediately knew I would go for a dress. I think a structured dress is feminine and classy. I purposely went for something with some fun on the ends. I think of myself (and my blog!) in these ways. I chose black, white and gold since they are my color scheme. In real life, if I use a simple color palette, I always try to pop with something bold like a red bag. I wish I actually had this outfit!

What would your blog look like if it was an outfit?

Heads up! I am finally buying my domain name. You will soon find me at www.beautybyarielle.com!

Threads by The Shine Project

PR Sample

If y'all didn't know I'm a clinical social worker. I think it goes without saying that I like a good cause and am impressed by people who are driven to make a difference in the world. That's why I'm sharing Threads by The Shine Project with you today.

So, who are they and what do they do?

"Threads is a cause driven business that changes the future of at risk youth. They come from various backgrounds, but they all have one thing in common, they want to break the cycle. By employing them, we instill values of self reliance and hard work. They are paid fair wages for the bracelets they make and in turn are able to pay their way through school. Many of Threads employees are first generation college students. They dream of becoming nurses, broadcasters, writers and engineers.

Your purchase will directly impact a student. Even beyond financial support, your belief in them is a symbol of hope and trust that they can achieve what for so long seemed impossible. By purchasing threads you are wearing more than just a bracelet, you are wearing change."

I have been following this company for a bit and truly love what they stand for. I was the first in my family to get a 4 year degree so I can empathize with the work it takes to make this dream happen.

Threads has bracelets, necklaces and apparel. I am showcasing their Silver Pixie Dust bracelet:

I love the simplicity of this design and more importantly what it stands for. I urge you to check out their website, you will quickly fall in love with a piece!

How to Style a Blazer Collab with Style Journey

As many of you know, I love reading fashion blogs. One of my faves is Heather from Style Journey. I appreciate her down to earth, everyday woman's style.

I asked Heather to team up with me on a fashion post. We decided to bring you ways to style a blazer. Hop on over to her blog to see how she chooses to wear her blazers!

Blazers are an absolute staple in my wardrobe-à la Kate Middleton. I find they're easy to throw on and look great on any figure! I have 3 different blazers here and have worn them for casual day time, work and evening.

In my day time look, I paired a tan blazer with jeans and a striped shirt. That same shirt makes an appearance in my work look. This time, I have a pink corduroy blazer. For my evening look, I took a black blazer over a dress.

Personally, I find it best to mix black slacks with colored blazers. I prefer black blazers for evening looks. During the day, I find it best to stick with tans.

How do you style your blazers?

NightCare Heel Treatment Kit Review

PR Sample

I have always been a sufferer of dry feet. Luckily, I never get to the cracked stage. I use special creams, the vaseline sock method and try to have regular pedis. When NightCare reached out to me about their Heel Treatment Kit, I was intrigued. I have seen spa socks at the drugstore before but have never given them a go.

Night Care Heel Treatment

What is it?
NightCare Heel Treatment Kit includes a foot lotion and a pair of socks with gel in the heels. The box claims "our heel socks deliver mineral oil to repair damaged skin" and "helps eliminate dry, crack heels." They are to be worn 3 times a week while you sleep. You can find them on amazon for $16.99.

Night Care Heel Treatment

Night Care Heel Treatment

What I liked:
  • Very cute designs
  • Easy to use
  • In the morning my heels felt extremely soft and supple

What I wasn't into:
  • Results were not consistent
  • The lotion is not particularly moisturizing

In the end, I thought this product was average. I was very happy in the morning when I found my heels soft as all get out. Unfortunately, they go back to normal within a few hours. I think the gel in the socks softens things up but not permanently. Also, I hate to wear socks to bed so these made me a little crazy.

I think if you experience cracked feet, you could be happy with this over a long period of use. For normal dryness, I think you will be just as pleased with your daily moisturizer.

What are your favorite foot products?

Not Your Mother's Clean Freak Refreshing Dry Shampoo Review

If you watched this video from me, you know I have become a regular dry shampooer. My shampoo of choice has been Pssst!. On my many stops at the drugstore for it, I have run across Not Your Mother's Clean Freak Refreshing Dry Shampoo but never picked it up. Then, there was a day I was forced to. I went by the drugstore and they were completely out of every dry shampoo but this.

The reason I do not stray away from Pssst! is because most dry shampoos have not worked for me (I have tried so many I have lost count). I was hopeful, since I have enjoyed other NYM products, that Clean Freak would work well.

Not Your Mother's Clean Freak Refreshing Dry Shampoo

What it claims:

Get that perfect hair (and the perfect guy!) before all the other girls. Expect more room on your social calendar because this salon formula dry shampoo will have you and your hair ready for a night out on the town. Absorbs excess oil, cleans without water, light matte finish.

I found this at the drugstore for around $5.50. It comes in a can, with a spray applicator. It has 7 oz of product. There is a light citrus scent to it.

What I liked:
  • Doesn't leave a white cast on roots
  • A little goes a long way
  • Leaves my hair feeling clean (at first)
  • Scent
  • Price

What I wasn't into:
  • By the end of the day I'm a grease ball again

I was very hopeful about this product when I first used it. My scalp and hair were feeling clean and refreshed. I also was able to get by with a lot less product than Pssst!. However, by the end of the day I could start to feel my dirty head and my hair went greasy. This has been my experience with most dry shampoos. I absolutely cannot use it on days I wear my hair down. I can get by if it's up in a bun, though. Needless to say, I won't be picking it up again.

That time I accidentally bought counterfeit bareMinerals

Well, it's time to admit it: I have been buying bareMinerals off eBay here and there. For the first time, I was sent a counterfeit version.

I knew the moment I opened the package that it was a fake. I made the purchase from seller cherries_18. After I received the item, I saw there were several negative or neutral feedbacks indicating that products were fake.

I grabbed some real bareMinerals from my drawer (I know for sure it was because I bought it at Sephora) for comparison. Just to make sure I wasn't just making this up in my head, I googled info on counterfeit bareMinerals. I ran across this awesome article. Every single thing that article points out that counterfeits have is what my order had wrong with it.

The way I knew immediately it was a fake was the logo. It was bold and not at all quality printing.

I also noticed the bottom of the packaging was wrong. Plus, it was missing the ID number.

The shade was way too dark and orange toned to possibly be fairly light. Real fairly light blends right into my skin.

This isn't necessarily going to deter me from buying bareMinerals on eBay but it will make me be more cautious. I have made a couple of other BM buys with no problems at all. Often times, I can find someone who bought it and got the wrong shade or wasn't into it to buy off of.

Have you ever accidentally bought counterfeit makeup?

Covergirl truMagic Skin Perfector Review

I have been watching emilynoel83's videos for several years now. Every time she mentions Mally's Poreless Face Defender, I go to QVC's website and at it to my cart. Each time, I back off because of the price. When I saw Covergirl launched their truMagic Skin Perfector I vehemently hoped it would be a dupe for Mally. The consistency of it alone made me think it might be a contender.

What is it?

truMAGIC offers a touch of magic in just one swipe and is available in three fabulous finishes: Skin Perfector for matte perfection, Luminizer for luminous highlights, or Sunkisser for a touch of sun. This innovative perfecting balm was designed to wear alone, under, or over makeup.  -from the Covergirl website

What it claims:

The product itself comes housed in a square compact with a sponge applicator. The consistency is dense but gel like. I have been using it as a setting product after foundation application.

I found mine at CVS but it's at most drugstores. It runs about 9 bucks.

What I liked:
  • Left my skin feeling extremely smooth
  • Mattified

What I wasn't into:
  • The applicator removed my foundation
  • I went oily within a few hours of use

Overall I do not believe this is worth picking up. It did very little for me. Sure, I had smooth skin and temporary matte skin but it didn't help set my makeup in any way shape or form. Plus, I went very oily pretty quickly with it. It looks like I'm going to have to bite the bullet and go for Mally.

Winter 2014 Favorites

Today, I'm sharing the products I have been loving this winter! Watch my video to find out more (description box in the vid has all the products listed):

Influenster J'adore VoxBox

It's been awhile since I received a Influenster box with multiple goodies in it. Today, I'm sharing the J'adore VoxBox.

Influenster J'adore VoxBox

What was included:
  1. Hershey's Kisses Milk Chocolates: Ok, who doesn't love Hershey's Kisses? These have always been a great pop of chocolate when I'm in the mood for something sweet.
  2. Red Rose Simply Indulgent Tea: I absolutely love tea. I have not seen this brand in stores before, so I was not at all familiar. I thought the Lemon Chiffon was fantastic. The Créme Caramel didn't taste exceptional in my book-just tea like.
  3. Kiss Look So Natural Lashes: Sorry Kiss, but these don't look close to natural. I adore wearing false lashes for nights out on the town but these are too damn long. Touching your eyebrows long. Sorry, but there's no way to make these look natural. I ended up taking them off and using a different pair.
  4. Frizz Ease 3-Day Straight Flat Iron Spray: Ok, so this surprisingly blew me away. I thought, I have straight hair so why in the heck would I need this. You guys, this eliminated my need for my flat iron. I always flat iron after blow drying but once I sprayed this in and blew dry with a round brush, I was good to go. Plus it left my hair extremely silky soft.
  5. Boots Botanics Shine Away Ionic Clay Mask: This is a pretty good mask. Reminds me a lot of Queen Helene's. I believe it cleaned up my skin nicely!
  6. Vaseline Men Spray Lotion: I thought I could get my husband to try this out but it was a no go. He's convinced any and all lotions will "gum up" (as he says) his leg hair. He was willing to spray it on his abs but that was about as far as he would go. I'm going to guess my husband does not the have minority opinion on male lotion. I sprayed it on myself and it has a very masculine scent with no oily residue.
